Kaleido Insuline Pump

Kaleido Insuline Pump [cl_column width="2/3"][cl_column width="1/3" col_sticky="1"] Client ViCentra works on the design and making of the Kaleido: a compact, simple and user friendly insulin pump. Project As a Mechanical Design Consultant and later as a Consultant Project Engineer, I worked on several projects and supported with multiple activities to get the Kaleido back to the market. I improved the design of multiple injection-molded product components (DFA, DFM) and worked together with a mold maker supplier in the design, production and validation of the molds. I worked together with the Manufacturing Engineers on the cleanroom production machines to improve machine and product quality, reduce maintenance and to ensure production tooling was ready for mass production. I supported the R&D team with Design Verification tooling design, protocols, execution of the testing activities and reporting.I worked together with a manufacturing and electrical engineer to CE mark the machines (gap assessment, risk assessment, CE documentation, machine safety design, regulations, technical documentation)I worked [...]

Project Inspiration

Project Inspiration [cl_column width="2/3"][cl_column width="1/3" col_sticky="1"] Client Project Inspiration is an initiative of the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Driven by an impending shortage of ventilators at the start of the COVID19 pandemic, TU-researcher Gerwin Smit found inspiration in an English ventilator from the 1960s. As my former  graduation supervisor he asked me to provide technical support to this project on a voluntary basis. Project The aim of the project is to develop a low-cost, easy to manufacture and easy operatable mechanical ventilator that can be rapidly build, anywhere in the world. Responsibilities At the start of the project, we identified the bellow as one of the most critical components. That is why I started to analyze the characteristics of the bellow of the 1960s ventilator. In collaboration with a Dutch supplier, we have developed a safe bellow for this application. This bellow has been carefully tested using both a prototype and an accelerated endurance test on [...]

Forensic Measurement Device

Forensic Measurement Device [cl_column width="2/3"][cl_column width="1/3" col_sticky="1"] Client The Delft University of Technology collaborates with other parties in the field of Forensic Engineering. Project To test a concept of a forensic measuring instrument, the current concept needs to be improved and properly constructed. Note. As the project is still under development, I am not allowed to share detailed information. Responsibilities The project was carried out on a project basis from my own office. During the project I was responsible for the analysis of the current concept up to and including the technical drawings required for a prototype. The design had to be well constructed to reduce measurement deviations. The device must be simple and easy to use with a limited risk of measurement errors. It was important for the detailing and materialization that the device can be easily disinfected.   Key factors Analysis Idea & concept generation Engineering Construction Supplier sourcing Preparations for prototyping

Easy Open-Close Hand Prosthesis

Easy Open-Close Hand Prosthesis [cl_column width="2/3"][cl_column width="1/3" col_sticky="1"] Client For my graduation in mechanical engineering I found a challenging project at the Delft Institute of Prosthetics and Orthotics. Project Most hand prosthesis research focuses on active prostheses, which are actuated internally by e.g. an electric motor. Limited research focuses on passive hand prostheses, which are actuated externally by e.g. an object or the sound hand. However, passive hand prostheses have a high potential because they are generally lightweight and easy to use. The aim of this project was to develop a passive hand prosthesis that is highly functional for the user. Responsibilities During the project I was responsible for formulating the project goals up to and including a presentation of the proven concept. A literature study into passive hand prostheses provided insight into the limitations and possibilities. I wrote the design requirements for a new passive prosthetic hand and went through the ideation and concept phase. The final design [...]

Exoskelet Movement Freedom

Exoskelet movement freedom [cl_column width="2/3"][cl_column width="1/3" col_sticky="1"] Client The Laevo is an exoskelet which is worn during work. With every bend or squat, it supports your back. Project The Laevo's design worked perfectly for forward bending, but limited the user's freedom of movement during other movements such as side bending or walking. This had to be improved. Responsibilities As an intern I was responsible for the problem definition up to and including the concept presentation. First, the problem definition and project goals were formulated. A thorough analysis of the desired movements of freedom provided input for various ideas, with the best developed in concepts. The concepts have been tested and the most promising solution has been chosen. The solution was optimized and further developed using calculations and more detailed tests.   Key factors Analysis Design specifications and wishes Idea & concept generation Innovation Prototyping Testing Optimization Presentation   Awards The design of the Laevo, including the developed solution for [...]
